From 21 February - 20 May 2007 the National Gallery is showing an exhibition of Pierre-Auguste Renoir ’s stunning landscapes, full of gorgeous colour and beauty.

I have had great fun designing jewellery to complement “Garden in Rue Cortot Montmartre” This painting shows the gardeners talking in the shade of the trees in the back ground and an explosion of flowers in the foreground. It’s as if the gardeners and the flowers have worked together to create a garden that is full of freedom and expression, a joyful garden, on a hot summer’s day.

For the jewellery I chose Jasper and Labradorite. Labradorite for its soft gray blue, green colour, and Jasper for its riot of rich colours. Jasper like the garden can’t be contained and each bead has its own colour and density, some opaque and some translucent, beautifully reflecting the light and shade of the garden. It’s been a joy and a privilege working with this painting.
