I have been given a fantastic opportunity to make jewellery for the Klimt Exhibition to celebrate the Liverpool City of Culture, to complement the painting Park Landscape with Mountain Top 1916.
Gustau Klimt was an artist of incredible talent, daring and honesty. His sense and use of colour and texture is breathtaking, Klimt’s choice of subjects was both ordinary and extraordinary. He led us, willingly, into our love and fascination of the world of nature, painted with colours and shapes that delight the eye, and challenged our façade of innocence by showing us paintings that invoked our hidden fascination and love of, love, sensuality and sex, painted with extraordinary skill, drawing from us the emotional and a physical response of the voyeur.
I responded to the commission with such excitement and a sense a wonder hoping that I could reach up and touch the depth of this incredible painting. I chose each bead to reflect a colour, shape or quality I saw in the painting. The semi precious stones, pearls and glass interact with each other, picking up on the energy and vibrancy of this wonderful painting. The necklaces 45cm and bracelet 19cm are strung on tiger tail with silver or gold settings.
